Only compassion and human decency can truly humanize the world. In a social context, nobility – or what we most often define as human kindness – is not sufficient on its own. In order to survive in 21st century society, it must become visible, open, and engaged. Public and useful. Most importantly, nobility is not and must not be understood as an abstract category. Nor is it collective. Kindness is an individual act – a person helps someone in need, and that person in turn lends a hand to someone else. This is how circles of nobility gradually expand. Only this kind of humanity can save modern civilization from decay.
Therefore, we speak about good deeds, noble people, small and large gestures, socially beneficial projects, creative capabilities, and the strong belief of the individual in their own authentic intention to make the world a better place.
Each of us bears responsibility for the environment in which we grow and mature, because such engagement is the only true contribution to social welfare. We speak and act in spreading kindness – until it becomes so omnipresent that we no longer see it as a social rarity, but as an assumed reality. Only then can we say we live in a civilized society, and not merely in a technologically advanced environment. It is enough to be human.
